Two decades in the field. A check that was missing.

For twenty years, we have been active in the car market. We have seen what works, what is missing, and we have lived it ourselves. NUR Label is our answer: a check that links the vehicle, its documents and the sources, so that everyone buys and sells knowing the facts.

In brief

Two decades at the heart of the car market showed us many weak spots, and almost always the same cause: the vehicle, its documents and the databases are rarely put side by side. After facing a large-scale fraud ourselves, we devoted five years to research and development against vehicle fraud. From this work came NUR Label: a protocol that compares the vehicle, its documents, its electronics and the sources, and a NUR that follows it from the first to the last kilometre. Today, with NUR Label, we are raising the level of security further, in Belgium and across Europe.

What twenty years taught us.

Buying, selling, trade-ins, imports, workshops: for twenty years we have worked at the heart of the car market. Thousands of used vehicles have passed through our hands, and with them thousands of documents, service books and invoices… and as many promises: “never had an accident”, “one owner”, “original mileage”.

A vehicle can have all the right papers, pass the roadworthiness test, registration, sometimes even customs, and still hide a clocked odometer, an outstanding pledge, a theft report or the identity of another vehicle. The documents on one side, the databases on the other, the vehicle somewhere else: each tells part of the story, and they are rarely put side by side.

Then came the day when we ourselves faced a large-scale fraud, like thousands of buyers every year: the documents said one thing, the vehicle another. From that day, the fight against vehicle fraud became our cause.

Five years of research to close the gap.

For five years, we have been researching, developing and investigating the methods of fraudsters: clocked odometers, cloned vehicles, altered chassis numbers, doctored documents, hidden pledges, unpaid VAT. Every technique studied becomes a checkpoint.

From this work came the NUR Label protocol, built on a simple idea: checking that every element tells the same story. Its 10 checks, always in the same order, compare the identity of the vehicle, its documents, the sources consulted and, depending on the check chosen, its electronics and the vehicle itself on site. What matches is documented. What differs is flagged, dated and kept in the file.

The missing check links the vehicle, its data, its documents and the sources. That is the gap NUR Label fills.

A number that follows the vehicle.

Every vehicle checked receives its NUR, the Unique Reference Number. It follows the vehicle from the first to the last kilometre, from owner to owner, and each new check enriches its file.

Our goal: to push vehicle fraud right back. That is why we are working, in Belgium and across Europe, to make the NUR a reflex in every transaction: the seller presents it, the buyer checks it. We want the NUR to take root with every professional, for a safer car market where every private buyer, NUR ID of the vehicle in hand, buys with full knowledge and without bad surprises. NUR Label is the trusted third party between seller and buyer.

  • A vehicle keeps its NUR.
  • Every check keeps its report.
  • Every finding keeps its source.
  • Every correction is added to the history.

What NUR Label brings.

To private buyers

A car is often the biggest purchase after a home. With NUR Label, you make it knowing the facts, before paying: a dated certificate where every finding is tied to its source, and a NUR ID that opens the vehicle’s file with a tap of your phone. You buy, negotiate or walk away with full knowledge.

To professionals

An independent file to show the buyer. The result depends only on what is checked: that is what makes it credible. Smoother sales, price discussions based on facts, and a reputation built vehicle after vehicle.

To the car sector

A common reference for every vehicle, dated findings anchored in a blockchain, and 10% of our activity devoted to helping victims and to prevention.

Made in Belgium

Belgium leads the way.

In Europe, Belgium is often a step ahead in protecting buyers. Since 2006, Car-Pass has sharply reduced odometer fraud; manufacturers send it the mileage of connected cars, and since 2026 it can show the state of health of an electric car’s battery.

  • 2004The law creates Car-Pass
  • 2006First Car-Pass issued
  • 2020Connected cars transmit their mileage
  • 2026Battery health on Car-Pass

Today, with NUR Label, we are raising the level of security further, in Belgium and across Europe. NUR Label complements Car-Pass: beyond mileage, it compares the identity of the vehicle, its documents, its electronics and the sources.

Always one step ahead.

Fraudsters adapt. So do we. The gap between a vehicle and its papers is never closed once and for all: it has to be watched constantly.

With the mass arrival of electric and hybrid cars, fraud is moving into electronics: reprogrammed odometers, modified control units, batteries whose real condition must be checked. In the United Kingdom, used electric cars became the most affected by odometer fraud in 2026: 3% of vehicles checked, ahead of diesel and petrol. That is why, depending on the check chosen, our protocol also examines the vehicle’s electronics.

At NUR Label, anti-fraud research continues every day: every new method spotted is studied, every check refined, every inspector trained continuously. Our goal: to stay one, even three steps ahead of fraudsters at all times.
