Where to find the chassis number.
The chassis number (VIN) is the vehicle’s identity card: 17 characters, the same everywhere. Before buying, compare it in these places — if it differs, don’t pay.

Six places to read the number.
At the base of the windscreen
On the driver’s side, visible from outside through a small window in the dashboard.
On the driver’s door pillar
On a sticker, visible with the door open, often with the paint code and tyre pressures.
Stamped into the body
Under the bonnet, on the wheel arch or the floor (under a cover or the boot carpet, depending on the model).
On the manufacturer’s plate
A small metal or adhesive plate in the engine bay or on a door pillar.
On the registration certificate
In field E of the document. This is the reference to compare with the vehicle.
On the certificate of conformity and the Car-Pass
The VIN is there too: all must show exactly the same.
The reflex: the VIN stamped into the body, the one on the stickers, the one on the documents and, if present, the one stored in the electronics must be identical. A difference is the first sign of a cloned vehicle.
Unsure about a chassis number?
NUR Label reads it in several places, reads it in the electronics and compares it with the documents and the sources.
